Educational Games For Tablets Like the iPad

Even very young children can learn to use tablets like the iPad, and there are a lot of new game apps coming out that are designed to educate them while they play. For example, there is a game called FirstWords: Animals that is great for teaching letter recognition.

It shows a picture of an animal with spaces for Scrabble-style letter tiles beneath. The child must drag the tiles to the matching spaces to spell the name of the animal. Another great game is called Bob Books #1 – Reading Magic. This game also features letter tiles, but it also has levels that emphasize letter sounds. The levels advance pretty quickly, and can get difficult for pre-readers. Toddler Counting is a simple math game that counts aloud as kids touch the items on the screen. Younger toddlers love this game and it does seem to be effective at helping to teach them counting concepts.
